Gurinderjit Singh Chahal – about me

I was born in Punjab, in northern India. My father ran a farm from my grandfather, growing cereals, rice, sugar cane, rapeseed, legumes, vegetables, Medicinal herbs, herbs and spices.

Today, my older brother runs this family business. My mother was a gifted cook who always prepared Indian dishes with fresh ingredients. Even as a child, I was interested in cooking. I inherited a love of herbs and spices from my mother: she let me help in the kitchen, explained the subtle differences between the spices, and showed me how to tell good quality from the best quality. She taught me to always choose the right ingredients and introduced me to the art of preparing them properly. She explained to me which components go well with which foods. This care in the handling of food and the culture of mindful eating had a strong influence on me: I grew up with an enthusiasm for cooking. An enthusiasm that continues to this day.
I finished school and completed a sports degree (Master of Arts) in India. My passion was discus throwing: a discipline that I practised as a professional athlete for several years. In 1991, I moved to Switzerland, where I initially worked as a chef and in the service team at the four-star hotel "Glockenhof" in Zurich. I was very interested in the food sector, so I switched to retail in 1995. In 2000, I started my own business and by 2012 I had founded several shops. In my spare time, I cooked for friends and acquaintances and tinkered with my own chutney creations, which I took to the shops for tasting. The customers loved them. This success spurred me to create foods that do not exist in this form and quality on the food market. I liked the idea of "marrying" Indian and European cuisine. The first result of this pairing was the chutneys – vegetables, fruits, and spices in culinary harmony. The idea for GURINDER art of food GmbH was born.

I made the first chutneys in my own private kitchen, just a normal kitchen in a rented apartment. The demand was so great that I soon had to look for another production site. In a stroke of luck, I found the building of the former cheese factory in Rothenhausen in the canton of Thurgau; the production of Gurinder specialities began here on 1 March, 2012. The twelve different chutneys were a complete success from the very beginning. Numerous grocery stores, delicatessens, food departments with gourmet products, butcher's, and other shops included Gurinder products in their range.
And it didn't stop at chutneys – the Gurinder product family has had a few "offspring" over the years. Always on the lookout for new products, I create pastes, marinades, dips, spice blends, teas, and other perfectly balanced delicatessen products. To this day, I regularly travel to various countries, including India of course, to discover new flavours, spices, and ingredients of the highest quality for my manufactory. From an early age, I learned how important first-class ingredients are for a well-balanced dish.
Simply a love of perfection!

Gurinder products are a basis for cooks and connoisseurs who like interesting, subtle, and well-balanced dishes.

The Gurinder product credo is:
